How to Make Friends in a New City: The Easy, Free Way

By on April 28, 2017

I’ve lived in Charlotte for about a year and a half now, and I’ve SO many friends thus far. Besides my  distant cousin who lives an hour away, I had no family or friends when I moved down here. I stayed with my old friend Jiselle, before I got my apartment and then she moved to Atlanta, and I was left to fend for myself. Luckily, I discovered many, many ways to make great friendships & meet people. Here are the steps I’ve created to help you all!

1. Get to Know Your Co-Workers

I was a manager at Hollister Co. when I moved down here, so I couldn’t actually become friends with my employees, only my fellow managers. However, I created strong relationships with my employees close to my age, so that if I ever left the job, we could remain friends! If your co-workers aren’t your employees, you can always join them out for a drink, and ask them to introduce you to their friends. The hardest part is starting! Once you make a connection with someone, more than likely, you will end up befriending their friends too.

2. Discover Upcoming Events Near You

Google will be your best friend when it comes finding out events near you! Their may be a parade uptown, or a huge event at a club or bar! Whatever it is, make sure it’s something that you’ll enjoy so that you can relate to the people around you. Dress to impress at any event, because first impressions are key! You want to seem like the person anybody who love to hangout with! I use eventbrite, to find local events, such a lifesaver!

3. How to Approach Someone

It can be hard going to these events alone but what you need to do is simple: Make a new acquaintance fast! When you first arrive at the event you need to approach someone that you’d interested being friends with. Next, you need to say that you’re new to town, and need advice on where to go for fun (or whatever your interested in, i.e poetry). What will probably happen is they will feel honored to help you out and then you can just ask small talk questions to get to know them! WARNING: You do not want to seem like you’re hitting on the person! Just casually say something that will show that you’re not interested in them sexually, for example, “That guy over there is so handsome, lets hope he has a good personality to match!” This clearly shows that you don’t like the girl you just want some new friends!

4. Getting to Know Their Friends

From here on out it will be like a snowball effect. You will start to meet more people from the first person you met, and then meet their friends and so on. Make sure that you aren’t flakey, and stay true to yourself! You don’t have to be friends with everyone, just make a few good ones that you can grow to trust. This also gives you a chance to be a new you, sometimes moving to a new city means you can start over! I hope these steps help you to make new friends in your new city or town. Comment below any other tips you ladies used to make valuable friendships!

7 Day Challenge: Boy Cleanse {Recap}

By on April 12, 2017

Wow what a journey. My boy cleanse this weekend was so hard! I’m such a hopeless romantic so not being able to flirt with a guy I care about was so hard. On the other hand, I GOT SO MUCH DONE. When you’re finally dedicating all your time to yourself, you would’t believe what you accomplish! Be sure to check out the beginning and middle of my journey too!

Day 4: Just the Girls Thursday

In Charlotte, there is this event called Alive After Five. It’s an event held every Thursday and it’s where young professionals go to watch live music, dance and mingle! So my roommates and I decided to go and just have fun for us, boy free! What we did not expect was there to be so many good looking men out and about. Once we had a couple drinks we forgot about the men and danced the night away just having fun. However, when you leave men alone, that’s when they chase you even more. So we left early and went to the 24 hour diner downstairs for late night snacks.

While we were eating my friend Michael walks in and behind him is a guy from college that I used to know and like! I hadn’t seen him in years and it was so tempting to talk to him all night, but I knew I had to wake up early to jog and get things done, so I cut it short. This Thursday ended up being so much fun, and we did it boy free! Kudos to us. Next weekend, however, I will not be boy free because it’s so much fun to flirt haha.

Day 5: Mani/Pedi Friday

Friday was also a good day, due to the fact that it was gorgeous out, I got my nails and toes done, and I cleaned my apartment spotless. We stayed in and had a wine night and we watched The Money Pit, and laughed hysterically all night!! This boy cleanse was definitely needed.

Day 6: Struggle Saturday

I am just so disappointed to say that Saturday I caved and did reply to this guy I really like. What made it worse is that I ended up running into him in uptown. When I went home that night, I struggled with trying to decide whether to spend my Saturday with him or my girls. I missed him so much. However, I did choose my girls, and we had a fancy night at Ink & Ivy. I started to think should I have done this boy cleanse for this long? I think I needed this time though with my friends, to show them that they are important to me too!

Day 7: Boy Cleanse Reflection Sunday

This past week I’ve crossed off everything on my to-do list and I feel like an organized woman. I’m so happy that I dedicated ALL of my time to me. I feel like I have more control over my life and I am less stressed about boys and who I’m texting. But, I’m not going to lie, I do look forward to date night, but I’m restricting myself to one date a week for date night. This way I get to know men, but I will be my #1 priority. I’ve realized that men aren’t a priority at 23, and better guys will come along the more successful I become.

I hope you guys enjoyed my little 7 day challenge. I did it to show all you boy crazy girls out there, that guys are not the end all be all! They have to earn your time, and your free time should be given to yourself, because you deserve it. If you guys enjoyed this challenge, and would like to see similar things from me let me know!

7 Day Challenge: Boy Cleanse {Days 2-3}

By on April 6, 2017

Wow these past two days have been bittersweet. If you missed my first day boy free you can find it here! Ok so I was hit up by a guy I really care about and had to tell him that this week wasn’t good for me. If it were normal me, I would’ve gone on a date with him in a heartbeat! However I channeled my energy into my blog and I accomplished so much. Let me dive into what else I did in these two days that really made me feel empowered.

Day 2: Treat me Tuesday

I treated myself to Paco’s Taco’s & Tequila House and I absolutely loved it. I took my journal and wrote down my plans for the day. I beat my face the best way I know how, the “no makeup” makeup look. I also pushed myself harder on my jog, because I wanted to see how far I could go and I surprised myself!

Day 3: Mud Mask Wednesday

Today was a hard day, I thought about boys for most of the day, I just wanted to flirt with someone. I love the thrill of dating, it’s so much fun, but it was consuming too much of my time. I wanted to do something to distract myself because I didn’t want to slip up and reply back to any texts. So I put on my charcoal mud mask and dedicated today to pampering myself. At my job, I tried my best to stay positive and have a good attitude, so that my glowing skin matched my attitude LOL I know, I know so corny haha

What’s Next?

This weekend I’m so excited to finally go out and just have fun for me! Boy free! I want to see what it’s like to have fun without men. I love men don’t get me wrong, but it’s always nice to experiment new things! I will let you ladies know how it went Saturday! If any of you have tried a boy cleanse let me know!

With Love,

7 Day Challenge: Boy Cleanse

By on April 4, 2017

I’m such a romantic when it comes to dating, and when I’m involved with a guy I get so distracted from my responsibilities. I have a few guys pursuing me right now, but I only truly like one of them. Him and I are so passionate about each other that it takes away much needed time from things we like to do (blogging). We recently got into an argument and my friend suggested I do a boy cleanse! I’m not cutting any man off, I’m just dedicating one week to myself, with absolutely no boys. I’m doing this experiment to see if I spend too much time obsessing over boys and not enough time on myself. Who knows what will happen on Sunday with my recap when this is over, it could be beautiful, or a disaster. I’ll just have to wait and see!

Day 1: Me, Myself & I Monday

This first day of no boys is going great! I slept in, I made myself a warm cup of chai tea due to the rain outside! I watched the movie Miracles From Heaven, and I loved it! Such a great film. I got a text from this guy who keeps hitting me up but I only sometimes reply because I don’t think we’re a good fit. It feels good to see that text and just forget about it.

However, I’m very tempted to text the guy I really like, but I know if I do, I’ll talk to him all day… Not a good look. I have to prove to myself that I can go without boys for a week. Once I stop making men a priority, I will be able to achieve my goals quicker!

Boys Shmoys

I’m just so over the way boys try to sweet talk you into getting what they want! Then they end up hurting you because you were a little too nice ONE time, and they leave! I get so caught up in getting a guy and being able to “boo love” with him, that I forget about all my other goals prior to it! It’s just not healthy, and I need to cleanse myself of this lifestyle, it’s stunting my progress. I jogged with my roommate this evening, and I pushed myself harder because I wanted to have a healthier body for me!

So get ready for a bumpy ride during these 7 days! I’m sure it’s going to be hard but I believe in myself and I know this will work! I’ll be posting a recap Wednesday for days 2 & 3 and what I did to uplift myself! That way you can try your own boy cleanse for however long you want!

How to Easily Make Your Bedroom Fabulous

By on January 18, 2017

Extra lighting is so important to making a bedroom inviting. If you want that wow factor, the first step is to have accent lighting on top of the main ceiling light. Mix it up when shopping for lamps, buy floor lamps, end table lamps and desk lamps! You can even go the extra mile and choose a unique and quirky lamp just to spice things up! The reason why accent lighting is so important is because it gives your room more dimension, and highlights the favorite parts of your bedroom!

Window seating

Now if you have a very small bedroom, you can disregard this section! Window seating comes in handy if you always have your friends over, and you want to your room to look more intentional! It also gives you a place to read, or a place to drink your coffee in the morning in privacy! Window seating is also inviting because all you need is two chairs & a window, and your room looks hotel worthy!

End Tables

Having a bed without an end table just makes a bedroom feel incomplete. Make sure you add great end table pieces, like a vase of flowers or cute picture frames! Going back to my first section about lighting, a statement lamp would be the winner of your end table! You can even make over a thrift store end table to give it a vintage look!

I am currently obsessed with tufted headboards! They just make any room so chic and high end! However, if you want to go with a tapestry that is super cute too. Also a wooden headboard gives any bedroom a trendy rustic look. Headboards make your room more inviting by pulling the room together, which makes it look complete! You’ll day dream about your bed all day long, looking forward to being in your room!

Accent Features

This is where the fun comes in! Get some ultra chic wall decorations, hang up some curtains and buy an area rug! You can even think of adding a plant to give your room a more natural look. You will look a pro incorporating the right accent features. It’s important to make sure all of your accent pieces are cohesive. It makes your bedroom confusing if your decorations are all over the place. An easy way to make your decorations more cohesive is to make a specific color palette. There are plenty of online resources that can generate one for you. It’s always a good idea to Pinterest some great rooms to get some inspiration. When you’re all done making over your room, throw a super corny slumber party with your most important girlfriends to celebrate!

I’m pretty sure you’re imagining your future fabulous room, and feel overwhelmed! Separate it into different days and save up money! Invest in yourself, you deserve it! Comment below any things you are thinking of adding to your room!

The Best Tips for Choosing Perfume

By on January 11, 2017

Perfume Shopping

I know I’m not the only one but I love picking out perfume! With as many options as we have in the market today, it can be hard to know which perfume suits us best. Below I give clear, simple tips to making your decision quick & easy!

  • Matching Your Clothing Style to Your Scent

I’m going to give a few examples to better explain what I mean! If your style is girly and haute couture you should search for a floral scent or a spicy scent. These scents help accent your style and personality! If your clothing style is more of a laid back tom boy, you can quicken your search by going for fresh and clean scents or citrusy scents! Matching your clothing to your perfume helps pull your entire look together to really nail any first impression!

I am such a girly girl so I typically go for floral scents, I just love the smell of them. However, one of my best friends has more of a laid back look, and she almost always chooses a citrusy scent! When I was studying fashion merchandising, we had to research how perfume scents could correspond with your clothing! I’m so glad I had that course because I now I get to help you all and my friends make better decisions on their signature scents!

  • Do Some Research Before You Go to the Store

Sometimes your nose can get overwhelmed if you smell too many strong perfumes at once. Also you have you to let perfume sit on your skin for 30 mins to see if it still smells the same, due to your hormones. Read some reviews online of the perfumes you have in mind so that you can skip over ones that have bad reviews! Perfume shopping can be overwhelming, but at least there are resources you can use to make it manageable.

Also when you’re doing research, compare prices, see what stores are having sales! You may like a certain perfume, but one store may be selling it at a discounted price. It’s always good to get a discount, can I get a woop woop?!!

  • Know Your Levels of Perfume

In perfume there are levels of scent strength, perfume being the highest and eu de cologne being the lowest. So if you’re looking for a light scent don’t go for the perfumes! Or if you’re looking to stop the show, you should 100% choose a perfume! Store associates have to smell and give advice each day, so they are literally they are the perfume encyclopedia! My extra tip for this section is to be open to what she suggests! You may be surprised by what you like!

I now know that when you go shopping for perfume, you going to look like a pro! Shopping is such a fun activity, but it’s always better to shop smarter not harder! When you walk by, I know people will be wondering what you have on, and they’ll be able to tell you know exactly who you are! If you have a favorite perfume comment it below! 😉

How to Get Your Perfect Little In a Sorority

By on January 3, 2017

Ah the joy bid day brings is indescribable, but nothing tops big/little night! Each sister is excited about either getting a little or adding someone to their family. Then it’s like a war trying to get the girl you want to choose you as a big. Well, fear no more I have a fool-proof way to get your perfect little!

1. Make Sure Your Favorite Girl Gets a Bid

During recruitment you are getting to know a lot of women, and it can be hard choosing between all of them! To get your perfect little, choose the girls that you just click with and get excited to see! Make sure you two can be the best of friends, because that’s the foundation you two will have as big and little.

2. Talk to Her Throughout the Bid Day Madness

It is so exciting and overwhelming on bid day, and once you see the girls that you really clicked with during recruitment, be that sister who she can feel comfortable around. Once you talk to the girls, choose two that you would absolutely love as a little, and make sure that you are making a good impression.

3. Invite Her to Grab Lunch

This is a great way to get to know your potential little and show her that you will be the best big she could ask for. Show your knowledge about the sorority, or tell her about your plans to hold a position! Make sure to make it fun and unforgettable. At the end of the meal, tell her “I am so excited you got a bid, I was rooting for you! I can’t wait to get a little of my own.” When you say this make sure you look at her and smile when you say the last part. This lets her know you want her as a little, but doesn’t put a ton of pressure for her to choose you. You wouldn’t want to do that.

4. Ask Her New Member Peers for an Inside Scoop

It’s completely fine to ask some of the new members if she is thinking of choosing you as a big! You’ve found your perfect little, and you don’t want another sister to have her. This also creates a conversation about you when the new members go back and tell you future little what you said!

5. Tell the VP of Membership Education Who You Want

I was the VP of Membership Education when I was in college and I had SO many sisters come up to me and tell me who they wanted. This gave me a better idea of who to pair up, and if one of my new members didn’t know who to choose, I would suggest that sister who wanted her.

Now that you have a plan in place, go get your AMAZING little! It is the most fun night of the semester! You get to finally reveal that you are her big, and that you’ve been secretly shopping for her since found out she was you little! Above is a pic of when my little got a little, it’s always fun to get a new member of the family!!! Comment your big/little night story or if you need advice below! I love helping and seeing everyone’s experiences!

The Secret Texting Techniques To Make Your Man Obsessed

By on January 2, 2017

If we think about what everyone tells us about how to hook in a man they all say the same thing: play hard to get. However, that’s too vague and how do you play hard to get over text? How long do you have to wait before you text him? What emojis should I use? There are just too many details. Well raise your weary head, and get a pen and some paper, cause that’s gonna be a thing of the past. Read on, read on.

  • NEVER, Ever Text Him First.

This only counts for the first month of talking, you want to make it seem that you have many options and have no need to reach out first. I know what you’re thinking, “I want him to know that I like him!”, and trust me he does, you gave him your number! The real question is does he like you! So by letting him text you first, it’s a constant reminder that he likes you enough to keep texting you. Also wait at least 5 mins before responding to each text.

  • Make the Conversations Short Over Text

Have an amazing conversation with him. Make him laugh, be witty and be yourself! Just don’t make it last all day, you’re busy, and even if you aren’t, you want him to think that you are. So always end the conversation first, say things like “I’m going out to eat with my girlfriends, gonna start getting ready, talk to you later.” This makes you look like he isn’t your everything, and he’s going to have to put in some effort to get the privilege of talking to you all day. This also sets you up for my next tip.

  • Use Texting to Get Him to Ask You on a Date

In my previous tip, you are not talking to him all day and you aren’t always available. Men love a challenge and solving things, so the fact that he can’t figure you out drives him crazy! So he’s going to want to set up a date to either chase you harder or try to solve the mystery. Only accept dates that are a few days in advance, if he says “Let’s meet up tomorrow!” you say “ I would love to, but I already made plans. Let’s do Thursday!” Now you have a date, and now he has time to build up his excitement to see you. Like they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder!

  • Use Flirty Emojis to Create Sexual Tension

Use them SPARRINGLY, no one wants an emoji filled text each time. Your texting conversations won’t be long so you want to make them unforgettable! Flirt with the wink, purple devil, and smirk to portray what you are thinking without words! Also you can use a funny gif in your conversations too, this lets him know you have a great sense of humor!

There you go! You now have the 4 parts to my texting technique that makes guys go crazy!  Not being able to figure you out will make him obsessed, and then he’ll think to him self “Wow I think about her a lot, I really like her.” You have just officially weaseled yourself into his thoughts without him even knowing it. If you have any awesome tips with texting guys or any testimonials from using the above tips, please comment below.

7 Things to do When You’re Moving to a New City as a Millennial

By on January 1, 2017

Ugh, isn’t it so stressful planning to move to a new city at a young age? Of course not! Read below the tips and tricks I used to make my transition from rural to city girl as smooth as possible!

1. Get a Good Job

This is a given, but the most important so hear me out. Make sure you can get a job that offers great benefits, and a great salary. City living can be expensive and you want to make sure that you will be completely financially stable so you can have fun!

2. Research Neighborhoods

You should do this before you move so that you know what to expect out of your community. Typically, people like to live around people their own age and income bracket. So research neighborhoods for young professionals so you’ll fit right in. Also keep in mind the nightlife, food, and miscellaneous places near by should fit your taste too!

3. Find an Apartment Complex That Fits Your Needs

This is very important. You should google reviews about each apartment complex so that you aren’t blindsided by crazy neighbors or worse (rat infestations). It’s always fun to live somewhere that throws events, so research places that have a strong community! When I was moving to Charlotte from East Stroudsburg, PA I researched for hours narrowing down my options so I lived in the safest, most fun place there was.

4. Find Family Near By

Ask your parents or extended family if they know anyone who lives in your city or nearby. This is great information to have in case of an emergency. It’s also great for unique tips and tricks about your city! Maybe they know the best clubs to go to, or the best restaurant in town. It’s always relieving to know that there is someone who’s lived there longer so you know what to expect.

5. If You’re Religious, Find a Place of Worship You Can Call Home

I’m a Christian, so I wanted to make sure the church I joined made me feel part of the family. Finding a place of worship can be hard because some churches may do things differently than what you’re used to. Every church is NOT the same. When you move to your city, take some time to ask around and get advice from people who have lived there for a while. Once you find your Church, you can make more friends and feel more at home.

6. Find a Reliable Roomie

Now if you are planning to live alone you can skip this part, if not read on girl! I’m not sure about you but I feel a bit safer rooming with people of my own gender, so join sites that make it easy and safe to connect. Sites like or helped me find roommates that were in the same predicament as me. I found my roommates on and I am now really close with two of them! We are millennials, there are so many resources out now-a-days that we can use to transition to adulthood smoothly!

7. Save, Save, Save

Before you make the big trip save your money! You will need to pay for SO many things (security deposits, hotel rooms, etc.), so having a lump sum of money before hand creates less stress. This also prepares you for other immediate expenses such as financing or leasing a car or buying work clothes.

Well there you have it! These are the tips and tricks that I used to smoothly move from a rural mountain town to a southern city! I was able to have fun going out and make new friends within days of moving to the city. If any of you have any extra tips or tried out my tips let me know in the comment section!
