The Reason Why Mardi Gras Changed My Life

My roommate was turning 26 and she invited me to go to Mardi Gras. I didn’t have much saved up, but I still went. THAT WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER. I have never had so much fun before in my life! I loved the fashion so much and I met people from all over the country. However, there is one thing that changed my perception on life completely, that I’ll dive into that in a moment.

American Horror Story Coven House

Yeah that’s right, it’s the American Horror Story Coven house! In that season they wore black every Wednesday, and it was such a statement. I am such a fan of all black looks, love the mystery of it, finish it with a nude lip and it’s a keeper. Most people wouldn’t connect American Horror Story with the fashion scene but each season has such great fashion pieces!

Beignets Are the Key to my Heart

I seriously felt like Princess Tiana when I was in the famous Cafe Du Monde. The beignets were absolutely amazing. I loved how they are crunchy at first then easily melt in your mouth. YUMMM.

Finding a Vintage Pink Store Makes Me Cry Happy Tears

While I was walking on Magazine St in the Garden District, I came across this cute vintage pink shop! It had a shabby chic sign out front with fancy in pink letters, I had to pose in front! It ended up being a cute nail salon! It was pretty warm out so I felt comfortable wearing my high waisted black shorts, cropped sweater tank, flowy white button up and fringe booties!

Mardi Gras Story Time!!!

Okay now to how New Orleans changed my life…

Chapter 1

It was the Monday before Mardi Gras and I went out with my 4 friends. I was wearing a Mardi Gras mask and a black skater dress. We went to Razoo’s and in walked a group of men, I thought one of the men was drop dead gorgeous but I was too nervous to talk to him. One of his friends asked my friend Giselle if he could buy her a drink so she walked off with him to the bar. I’m standing there alone, and decided to put my hand on the railing, his hand was there and I accidentally touched it! Talk about a cute introduction πŸ˜‰ So he offered to buy me a drink, and we talked all night and kissed goodbye.

Chapter 2

The next night on Fat Tuesday we saw each other again at Razoo’s. When he first saw me his jaw dropped, I was wearing a red strapless skater dress with a shiny silver choker. We held each other all night at the club and exchanged stories about our lives. He stopped by my hotel to say goodbye before he left for Atlanta, and he cuddled me on the couch as he massaged my feet. Needless to say, I thought I met the man of my dreams.

Chapter 3

So naturally I look him up on Facebook, and his profile picture was HIM KISSING A WOMAN in a professional christmas photo. At this point, all I see is red, but it got worse, he had two kids!!!! So I immediately think I kissed and got close to a MARRIED man πŸ™ I was furious. I am not that kind of girl. My friends all got their detective hats on and did some digging. It was confirmed that he was a father but the woman was his new gf. It completely changed my outlook on people who proclaim all this love on FB but then go to Mardi Gras and behave in that manner. I just pray that he learns to be honest & faithful. My life was changed, and I immediately blocked him πŸ™‚

If any of you ladies have dealt with a man you thought was your dream man then ended up being terrible, let me know in the comment section!

With Love,

Alaya

  1. Well at least you learned a life lesson which didn’t drag on for a long time. It definitely could have been worse. There is a silver lining…and you had a great time at Mardi Gras with your girls. Life’s good.

    1. So true, I’m glad I immediately looked him up! & yes it was such a blast, Mardi Gras is definitely worth it!

  2. This was an interesting & entertaining post. Side note I love Beignets as well I can taste them now, but that story about the guy you met was crazy. A similar story happened to my friend when he went to Miami for memorial weekend. It seems like people not as honest when they go on vacation.

    1. Ah it was my first time trying them, so amazing! I now know for my next vacation to not trust anything people say until after I do some research lol I hope your friend learned the truth quickly too! πŸ™‚

  3. Sondra Barker

Wow, I really hope he learns to be faithful to his wife. That is one of the great things with social media and google, you can play detective and find things like this out. Glad you enjoyed Mardi Gras though!

    1. Yes thank goodness for google! Thank you it was so much fun!

  4. I was just in NO at the end of last year and BAAAAABY those beignets are bae!!!!

    1. They truly are!! πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

  5. Aww I was getting so happy for you until the last chapter πŸ™ Guys really suck sometimes! That was so rude of him! I’m glad you blocked him!

    1. Yes it was so disappointing! Some things are just too good to be true!

  6. A lesson definitely learned, just goes to show that we need to be cautions on who we let into our lives not matter how short their stay may be cause something can happen in 5 mins that may forever change our lives.

    1. So true! If I would have never looked him up, I would still be head over heels! Definitely a big lesson in my life.

  7. Elle (CleverlyChanging)

You are absolutely stunning. Sorry that you had a sour experience. Hopefully, there will be better times in the future.

    1. Thank you Elle! It was fun for the most part, I just know to not get caught with a boy next time haha

  8. Ha! Wow what a crazy story!! Well at least the trip was still a success. I’ve been dying to go to New Orleans.

    1. Ah you should definitely go! It’s so much fun!

  9. Girl I was about to be so happy for you until the end. Yeah I wouldnt go looking for love in Mardi Gras…men are out there being wreckless. I hate that for you, but it is the place of sin and temptation why do men do that tho???!? So stupid BLOCKED!

    1. Yes I definitely blocked him so quickly! I finally had the realization I needed.

  10. This was a very juicy post and I think I was let down at the end by the guy! Shame on him and good thing you learned about it early on.

  11. I’m so mad I was in NO and didn’t taste any beignets! #whatwasithinking Guys are so trifling. I went to South Africa, something similar happened except I didn’t kiss him or anything (we just hung out) but he was trying to sleep with me. He was def fine. Came home and looked at his facebook and was a father and wife as well. So glad I didn’t do anything with him.

  12. WOW. Sorry that the guy turned out to be a dud! On a side note, I just went to my first Mardi Gras this year and had a great time!

  13. Sorry that happened to you. Some men are dumb. Glad you learned early on that he was a jerk.
